We Answer Your Frequently Asked Questions

Custom Camper Van Conversion FAQs

  • Can you install solar on our van?

R&L Van Builds, LLC can install any kind of roof-mounted solar panels. We also can install lithium-ion battery packs for storage, and to enable off-grid setups.

  • How long do you generally take to turnaround a van build?

It all depends on what is needed. For smaller projects like adding solar to an existing rig, we can complete it in as little as two weeks. Full builds generally take between 3-4 months.

  • How long is the lead time before you can start on our van conversion project?

Generally, we are operating about 2-3 months out, although we recommend filling out the form on our website and speaking with the office to get a more specific time estimate.

  • What do you recommend we have put into our camper van conversion project?

It all comes down to your lifestyle, and what your plans are for the van once it's finished. We recommend filling out the form on our website and speaking with our office and team to figure out what will best fit your needs.

  • Are you able to make camper van conversion builds that are comfortable in colder weather?

We recommend and install Webasto heaters and Havelock wool insulation. We do recommend winterizing your van (which is a service we offer) if it's not going to be running its heater for any stretch of time, to avoid pipes freezing and other damage.

  • What are the benefits of installing a Flarespace kit?

We recommend a Flarespace kit for most builds, as it adds more sleeping room, as well as offering a window option for the rear sides of the van. This also helps conserve square footage in the floorplan, so you can get more out of the rest of your build.

  • Do you offer pop-tops?

We will be willing to install pop-tops if the customer purchases and provides the kit. We are actively looking for a manufacturer that will work with us as an independent upfitter, as this is a relatively common request from our customers.
